Last year, I got a chance to discuss with a Professor Murthy from IIT Kanpur. He was one of the members of the team the government of India formed to study the Tsunami that hit the south east coast in India. I asked him about the possiility of earthquake in Nepal. He told me that the Himalayan belt along with the the northern part of India will be the worst hit by earthquake. Though I don't know much about the phenomenon that trigger earthquake, I was convinced that the overlapping tectonic plates lying just beneath the himalayan range makes us vulnerable to hard-hitting earthquake. I just had remembered Murthy's remark when the news of earthquake in Jammu-Kashmir was aired. In fact, we were saved that time. Though the earthquake hit in the himalayan range, it was far from ours. The well-known professor, suggested me not to make two story building in my homecountry. I just can't imagine what will be the humanatarian situation in Kathmandu when things go the way as expected.
