It's obvious - PCs. The internet and all other mobile gadgets like cell phones wouldn't be possible without the concept of a personal computer for the masses. It also accelerated the development of smaller and smaller Integrated Circuits, without which smaller gadgets like cell phones and IPods wouldn't exist. Cell Phones sound chic, but it's hardly the most important.
