“You have to feel for Kobe Bryant,” TNT analyst Charles Barkley said after the Lakers lost Wednesday. “He’s the best player we have in basketball today. He just doesn’t have enough help. [The other] guys are just too inconsistent and it’s not going to be easy to fix that team. People keep talking about Kevin Garnett, but if [Minnesota executive] Kevin McHale takes any of [the Lakers] for Garnett, he’s crazy.” Amen to that, Chuck. Why would the Wolves possibly be interested in acquiring pieces of Kobe’s supporting cast? It doesn’t make sense to me…if a Kobe-lead team only reaches the seventh seed, then clearly, the other guys are providing lousy support. The only reason that the Wolves would deal with the Lakers is Andrew Bynum. If they believe Bynum can develop into a superstar, then they would consider dealing with LA. But I’ve got my doubts about Bynum, and I’m sure McHale and Company also have doubts. Lakers fans have started GetGarnett.com (thanks I Heart KG) to convince their team to trade for KG. But it’s not going to happen. If KG is dealed this summer, which I doubt, there are far better options for the Wolves than LA. Interesting tidbit…Ric Bucher was on Mike and Mike, and talked about KG. A few months ago, KG told Bucher that he didn’t want to be traded…well, a lot can change in a few months. Again, I doubt that Garnett will be dealt this summer, but I do think there’s a chance it could happen. Finally tonight, the Wolves’ first offseason move was to fire their dance team coaches…perfect material for a Dan Barreiro rant.
