I wanted to stay away from this type of inflammatory topics, but, after reading some of the postings, I'd like to opine. Racism, whether we like it or not is here to stay. It appears in different shapes and forms. Sometimes, its a legitimate issue, And at other times, it is a mere weapon of defense for the inferior classes. For example, was there racism against the blacks, and other minorities in the USA in the 1900s? Yes. But, at this day and age, racism/hatred has been marginalized. However, we have several Black groups such as Black Panther who are similar to Ku Klux Klan, except they are all blacks, and simply spread the word of hatred and racism against White America more than anything else. Now back to the issue in Nepal. It is not fair to limit this discussion to only Bahuns vs. Newars. It exists against every race in Nepal, Newars, Bahuns, Gurungs, Magars, Tharus --based on caste. But, how about racism based on your occupation --Isn't racism also a form of discrimination??? How many times have you really approached people (In Nepal) who are financially deprived, and take on jobs such as fruit sellers to shoemakers, garbage collectors to housemaids......I think we tend to over emphasize a miniscule of things, and close our eyes against the big picture.....It is the our inability comprehend, and rationalize the issue, and overly generalize against one race or another.
