Hi SunnyDev (you have an attractive name!), No doubt, your taste is impeccable; Sumoff is an exceptionally talented writer. Blistering Barnacles, Captain Haddock! all is well, indeed. It wasn't a brilliant analysis, hau--just a basic note on POV. Sumoff, I'm flattered you remember my poem. I hope your fender-bender didn't cause you much heart ache. but it takes a while hoina? As for teaching Writing, I do. However, I do not occupy the lofty position of a professor (some day, perhaps, maybe, who knows); I am working towards my thesis. But before all that, I have to critique (plot, structure, action, character, setting, present action...etc) pages and pages of novel and short story submissions. My critique in turn gets critiqued! For now, I haven't written much but hope to during summer vacation when I am off from work. As for looking for publishers--not even close! :) In the meantime, I come to Sajha and enjoy your, Galt's, Svengali's (I wish he'd write more often), and others' literary pieces. It's great to see you open to criticism because that's exactly how agents and editors scan your work. Great job, sumoff, keep on writing--I think you know more on Fiction writing than you let on! :) Something to keep in mind on POV: You cannot have too many shifts in POVs. For example, if you narrate the story from Dhaney's POV, you cannot enter Mangala Devi's mind, Dhaney's emotions, Sameer's psychology all at the same time. Pick one person's POV and stick to it. And if you do give an omniscient POV, make sure it is done in a separate paragraph. However, an omniscient narration creates distance between reader and the character. For example: A girl named Rita stepped out of the blue bus. At a glance, she looked confused. (Omniscient) Rita stepped out of the blue bus. She seemed confused. (Third Person POV--limited) Shivering, Rita gingerly stepped out of the blue bus. She felt confused. (Third Person POV Close-In) Take your pick. How close do you want your readers to get?! And so on and so forth while I babble! :)
