Hi foolsparadise and Sunny Dev, Just a few notes on Sum Off's use of POVs (points of view). He's alternated between an omniscient POV and a third person limited POV. The omniscient allows an overall look at themes and wisdoms/ judgements which would be almost impossible in a third person limited POV only. Having used both, the author has given himself leverage to include a bigger picture of the narration. However, it removes us (his readers) from entering the protagonist's mind and thoughts. This is only possible in a third person close-in POV, in which case, alternating it with an omniscient POV cause shifts in the distance between the reader and the protagonist. I agree with foolsparadise that when a narrator makes a judgement call the narrator's voice becomes stronger than the protagonist's experiences and therefore, impacts the reader's conclusions. Sometimes, the author deems this necessary to make a point other times the author does so without the knowledge of having imposed a verdict. On aesthetics, it depends on whether the author wants to embellish his writing with appositives and/or parallelisms. These are tools that elevate writing to literary form. anyways, the narrator has a strong voice throughout. He stays in scene and as he narrates, he builds up the tension which causes the readers to become emotionally invested in the characters. so much for my critique (this is what I have been doing for the last 4 semesters! It's kind of become an annoying second nature!!!! :(
