Let’s Honor UDIT NARAYAN

I don’t know why Udit Narayan claims to be Indian. May be it is easier to say Indian in his field of work. May be he feels more connected to Indian than Nepal. What ever. That is his business. But some of you raised the issue which implies that we should consider ourselves Indian since we worship Indian religion. On this matter; look at countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, etc. There are thousand and thousand of people who are Hindus. Granted Hinduism originated in India. That doesn’t mean we have to consider ourselves Indian. Also, in every country, Hinduism is practiced differently. So being Hindu and being Indian is totally different issue. When we live so close to such a huge country with so much cultural influence, it is hard for us to keep our own identity. This is true for many other countries. Look at Ireland being next to England. Just to keep our little identity as Nepalese, we even have time difference of 15 minutes to India. I greatly admire Indian culture. But that doesn’t mean I am going to go out of my way to say I am Indian. May be Nepal is poor, may be Nepal is backward, what ever… But that is the only country I have to call my own. So instead of saying Nepal is India we should acknowledge Nepal is heavily influenced by India. That’s my 2 cents.
