New York Nepalis parley with visiting leaders Kantipur Report KATHMANDU, April 30 - Marking the 'First Loktantra Day', Nepalese Democratic Youth Council in USA (NDYCUSA) organized an interaction program with Nepali delegates at New York, on Wednesday. "The country is very close to becoming a democratic republic and no one can stop people's desire to establish a democratic republic in Nepal because the political awareness of Nepali people is very high and the overwhelming majority of Nepali people want to see a democratic Nepal as early as possible," Dr. Mathura Prasad Shrestha, a prominent civil society leader who addressed the program, is quoted to have said, in a statement issued by NDYCUSA here Sunday. He also said that various reactionary forces are very active against the progress and the political leadership is dragging its feet on forward-looking reforms. Similarly, the statement said that Arjun Narshing K.C, Central Committee Member of Nepali Congress Party said that Nepali Congress party would not go against the aspirations of the overwhelming majority of Nepali people, who want to see Nepal as a democratic republic at the earliest. KC further added that his party would soon go through a unification process with Nepali Congress (Democratic) and also go for a republic in Nepal. Other leaders speaking on the occasion were Deputy Speaker Chitra Lekha Yadav, former Speaker Daman Nath Dhungana and NC(D) leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat.
