agreed that he might have been made a sole scapegoat. success and failure, in a team game as cricket is, cannot be attributed to a single person in the management or to a player. that said, i believe that he was being a bit too ambitious trying to copy "Australian style" (as bidhan said) in indian cricket. India cannot afford to do that! Aussies have a very strong foundation of first class cricket. there is no dearth of talent in the youngsters so when seniors with the likes of Waugh brothers or legends like Warne or McGrath don't perform, they can very well be replaced by a youngster. indians don't have solid local cricket foundation, so ousting out the seniors for few bad games, poor show or a poor form does not make too much sense. Chappel was a great cricketer of his era no doubt but alas, he couldn't be methodical enough for indian cricketing environment or his methods were not conducive enough, put it that way. He was not able to motivate the team india and that's one of the reasons for India's debacle in the WC. one of the major duties of a coach is to be able to motivate the team, give them the confidence that they're lacking. he was not able to do so. at least the WC's result says so. So goodbye Chappell-- i feel for you, but i guess, it was the right decision. LooTe
