bme, your first paragraph is total nonsense. Only if you are afraid of competition... With your logic, there should not be competition in school either. Sometime we get news like, student jumped off the cliff after SLC exam or like that. So, should we scrap SLC exam? Dude, get in to competition else people may label you as coward. So is beauty contest. Get in to it. Most of the criticisms are like "Angoor amilo chha". I do agree that they could have choosen some GOOD day consultin nepali PATRO or after consultation with vibrant pundits. That way (astrologically) people like yourself would not criticise this event.
