I agree with the idea of expression,it shouldnt be banned or limited for and against certain groups of people. I,too,personally think beauty contests are total wastes.it's non sense and has absolutely no value whatsoever in contestents' lives. It gives a short lived psuedo sense of glory for the winners and a long lasting sense of loss to the losers.Psychological analysts would agree that one loss in a person's endeavors holds them back mentally which later reflects on their overall development.Think of the girls who are working so hard to get selected in the first place.then comes the competition,think of the rest of the participants who lose.What messeges does it send to their subliminal self? their thoughts do revolve around the circles of imperfections about their body,looks,styles of their talking points,and so called brain and beauty material content.These contests hence are meaningless in terms of social good and services. And about the 24 chaitra...I am against choosing this day.It has a very special meaning to all who care a little bit about democratic movement and suffering of the people who so valiantly involved themselves in that pivotal juncture against the aristocracy.The brave people of Kathmandu,Patan,kirtipur in particular ;we owe it to them and remember their beliefs of freedom and democracy on that particular day.I wish they could see the future then that the glory of 24th of chaitra, 2046 in nepali history would dim out the way it has in the light of following events.A generational gap has emerged since then,a tectonic shift has caused a wide rift on the ways the people think about issues nowadays-global events,some good some bad.It all depends on an individual's point of view.There is no absolute truth about who is right and who is wrong,because some want to celebrate that day and some want to remember and perhaps lament. I am one of the ones who want to remember it,consider it a day that has true heroism,sacrifice and ray of freedom which helped educate people at least in terms of basic democracy and civic lessons.It helped our society today as it is now to launch its strides towards republicanism.
