I thought this topic needed to be put on the shelves, until I read some of the latest comments.
Few posters are really making a mountainl out of a molehill as Vincent said. Vincent's acceptance of the person (Mr. Bisht) back to the society is praiseworthy, but you cannot discount his crimes as well.
To Slackdemic's point, Mr. Bishta cannot prove he didn't believe the girl was lying due to following reasons:
1. They chatted pretty explicitly over the net and nowhere he showed his suspection of her age.
2. The point that would nab him, is his admittance to watching the Dateline episode before. He was aware of these practices and consequences.
He talked to the girl for 1 month before he made his move and drove 4 hours before he met her. It was pre meditated move, his consience had enough time to alert him.
Vincent's example was a very mild one, not very apt. It is not like FBI leaving a pile of money infront of your door...the better example would be FBI leaving medical marijuana in your alley and you waiting for a month before making the move and "stealing" it.
The guy should be charged as guilty and should be punished for his crime.
