I am sincerely trying to understand why people want to keep monarchy and, so far, I have not found any viable reason. One said monarchy is an institution. But we have so many institutions, why should this particular institution, with particularly bad history, be saved? Another said monarchy is our history. Sure, but that alone does not suffice. If monarchy is our history, they they should be history, no? Yet another said without monarchy we will have anarchy. Besides the ho-hall and personal opinions, is there really a proof of that? Are we Nepali janatas so incompetent, incapable and with no self-confidence that we do not believe in ourselves to govern ourselves? Many said, well, let's have full functioning democracy but let's keep monarchy as ceremonial symbol. Are you sure? Why? First, we can hardly afford it. There ain't much dough to go around in our already impoverished country. Why keep a money drain (some call it parasite)? Second, if it is ceremonial symbol we are looking for, why should that be royals? Why not Pashupatinath or Swayambhu or Boudha or Kapilvastu? Third, why do we want to keep a dog knowing that it is rabid and prone to attacking people given a chance? Why? WHY? WHY? WHY?
