Funny Episodes of Mahabharat

Disclaimer: Strictly in jest - not meaning to ridicule ! There are plenty of episides and events in Mahabharat - the holy piece, which sound inconvincing and sometimes laughable - in jest. Thanks to B.R. Chopra and his production team, for reconstructing the bible of hinduisim and bringing it as what later turned out to be one of the mega shows in the history of indian television. Personally speaking, if it wasn't for his wise decision to make a grand TV series out ot the mythology, I wouldn't know many fine details of wide gamuts of events and stories that the piece actually has. Lately, in an informal talk with an indian friend of mine, I came to know that Mahabharat was written by rishi Ved Vyas in somewhat biased ways and the antagonists with the likes of Duryodhan and Dushashan have been characterised deliberately with more negative shades than they actually possessed. Even with their names, enough tweakings were done to show that they were really bad else their real names were Suryodhan, meaning brave (?), and Sushashan meaning good rule/ruler. I did not know that. Just felt like mentioning. Please correct me, if I am wrong. My father read Mahabharat many times before seeing it in the television. His favorite character used to be Karna. I was very curious to see this character and know more about the person who influenced my father so much. Sadly, Chopra's Mahabharat did not projected Karna's character to full fairness and it failed to make any kind of good impression on MY mind at least. I do not know whether it will change, if I read the book to get to know more about him. Now coming to the funny episodes, the first thing that comes to my mind is Dhritarastra and his wife Gandhari having 100 sons and a daughter. hahaha...I mean okay people of that time used to live longer (?) so it may be possible to have a team of kids, but c'mon, 101 children? Isn't it just one too many? Didn't they get tired or what? Oh well, may be they did not use to have family plans in those days, but still...it's a crime-IMO!!! On top of that, Dhritarashtra was blind and Gandhari had put a cloth piece over her eyes to show her commitment for her husband which is certainly laudable. I wonder how many kids they would have ended up with, if both could see each other! :P One school of thought behind having that many children is even more interesting. If you remember, Dhritarashtra was the eldest son but he was blind and therefore had to step out from becoming the king. His younger brother Pandu took over. This built up as a sheer frustration for the ambitious Dhritarashtra. He wanted to give birth to his son before Pandu to make sure his son rule, but missed that chance as well by a whisker. Pandu's son, Yudhisthir came to the earth before Duryodhan, his son. This devasted Dhritarastra even more so he went with this mission to give birth to as many children as possible. It was not by choice or pleasure but by sheer anger...:P More episodes coming later. Please add on, if you have any. LooTe
