America no longer owns globalization

Bathroom Coffee - What a happenstance that you should post this article. I had read this in the Tribune and was about to do it myself earlier today but got busy:) Yes, it is so true. American capitalism may have unleashed globalization on the world, but the center of gravity of globalization, and as a result the reigns, have continuously moved away from America. I can see this trend accelerating as the rest of the world catches up. I was reading another article that says both India and China will each surpass the US economy by 2040. Combine that with a younger population in these countries and you have a pretty interesting picture forming. Many of the advantages that America enjoyed over the last 200 years - like a young and dynamic population, lower wages (as compared to Europe in the last century), will be the same advantages China and India leverage to overtake the US. Forget power dynamics for a moment, even if you are an investor, that's where the future of money is. I work with people from both countries and their economies and work cultures are in many ways like what it was in the US around the dot.com boom. Except that their current economic conditions are more favorable for sustained growth than the US's was in 2000 since their is still a lot more room before they hit the ceiling. For example their vast domestic markets, with their increasing prosperity, are becoming great places to do business. Take Wal Mart that is now opening stores in India to compete with the Lala-ji in the mohalla :) Did you check out that article about Starbucks in the Forbidden City? Thats another example right there of how local conditions in places like India and China will shape the forces of globalization. :)
