According to a source, the cabinet has picked the Buddha picture from among various alternatives suggested by the Notes Design Committee of Nepal Rastra Bank. The central bank had initiated the exercise to replace the king's picture from notes of all denominations following the historic April Movement that sidelined the monarchy from state affairs and even raised questions about its very survival. Except for the picture nothing will change in the design of the notes. "The other design of the notes will be retained," said the source. The source informed The Kathmandu Post that the new notes with the picture of the Buddha would come into circulation in the next six months
