Maoists announce to dissolve all of their people's govt units: Following the promulgation of interim constitution and the formation of interim parliament including their representatives, the Maoists have announced to formally dissolve all of their people's government, people's court and communes across the country. Maoist chairman Prachanda made the announcement in a press statement on Thursday. “This statement announces that in keeping with the historic phenomenon of January 15, and according to earlier agreements, the people’s governments and people’s courts run by the CPN (Maoist) at different levels have been dissolved formally,” Prachanda’s statement read. He said the people’s governments would now take the form of interim local governments. Directing to immediately suspend all the activities carried out under the people’s governments, the Maoist supremo asked his party ranks to actively cooperate in making the constitution assembly elections a success. He, however, argued that reversal of the decisions taken by the people’s governments and their courts would run counter to the spirit of recent agreements, which would not be acceptable to his party. Meanwhile, Prachanda has revealed that despite joining the interim parliament and interim government, his party's main aim is still the same. "We want to reach the ultimate aim of communist system based on Marxism, Leninism and Maoism," he told BBC Nepali service, adding that the democratic republic system and people's democratic system will lead to that final aim. When asked if he wished to seek apology from those who were wrongfully victimised during the decade-long conflict, Prachanda said his party was planning to reach the wrongful victims with specific programmes. "We have always said we are ready to apologise wherever there have been mistakes," he added. He also revealed that during the course of the conflict, he had never personally ordered killing of any individual. "But since I was involved in making the policy of eliminating people's enemies, I do take up the responsibility at policy level.” Prachanda also said that in case of his party coming to power, he would not live in any "palace." nepalnews.com sd Jan 18 07
