I've said this before and will say it again: a republic of Madesh is prolly as much a pipe dream as the republic of Patan. Proponents of the idea may have gotten the problem right but seem to have gotten the solution wrong. How exactly Madesh is going to become independent beats me. A referendum? I'll take that any day if the performance of ethno-centric parties is any indication of where the minds of voters lie. Time and again it had become evident that this country is much stronger than some of us think. A decentralized governance model, which I hope will come out in the new constituion that the CA writes-up, can address, I believe, many of the needs of an independent Madesh or Limbuwan without the overwhelming costs of setting up a new state. It's small wonder that the vast majority of non-Khas continue to see their political aspirations fulfilled through national forces like the NC,UML, Maoists or even the King in some cases. As long as people are given space and mechanism to address their grievances and aspirations there is a good chance that they will not let extremism rule their minds. My 2 cents.
