The following paints a very bad picture of safety for women in Indian cities. It is probably quite true, but I do not know for sure as I have never lived in India for a length of time, except for in Darjeeling. Also, I know it is not as bad in Darjeeling, or even Kathmandu, but nonetheless, it always behooves to be careful.
