It is possible, but it will take weeks for the check to clear. It will take even longer if the amount is in excess of $10,000 as it will be scrutinized even further. Using travellers cheque is much easier. Or better yet, just do the bank transfer. It will cost a little more, but no hassle involved and you will always get the best rate the bank has to offer.
