Gurupurab of 9th Guru of Sikhs who sacrificed himself to save Hindus 9th Guru of Sikhs who sacrificed himself to save Hindus On 24 November a festival is celebrated amongst members of a small community…they are Sikhs and are celebrating Gurupurab when their Ninth Guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur Jee was beheaded in Chandni Chowk in Delhi some 350 years back by Mughal Ruler Aurangzeb. He gave his ‘shahidi’ for the lives of Hindus. Aurangzeb had ordered in his rule that all Hindus would convert into Muslims. Some Kashmiri Pundits at that time came to Guru Tegh Bahadur in Anandpur Sahib, Punjab and asked what can they do in such a situation? Guru Jee said that a great man has to sacrifice himself. He has to become your representative and all Hindus have to declare that if that person is converted into Islam all Hindus will do so also. Guru Jee’s 9 year old son who later became 10th Guru Gobind Singh said in his tender age:’Who can be greater than you Father?’ Guru Jee went to Delhi in Auranzeb’s court and were given all greeds, saam, daam, dand, bhed… His 3 followers were killed in front of him. One was cut into two halves and other two were boiled and burnt. Finally Guru Jee was beheaded, he sacrificed himself so that all Hindus can live. He is known as ‘Hind di chadar’ the cover over HInduism…but today we see less only Sikhs in that Nagar Kirtan the procession and no Hindus… On the place of the Martyrdom a Gurudwara stands, Gurudwara Sis Ganj on Chandni Chowk in New Delhi. Today we should commemorate for his sacrifice, his balidaan, shahidi, and protection from a Mighty Ruler Its quite a fact that the small community of Sikhs has done so much for Hindus and Muslims and our country India so selflessly…yet nobody knows that because of Guru Tegh Bahahdur today we have the world’s fourth largest religion,Hinduism alive and many lives are safe.Sikhs are known to be martyrs and warriors. Please comment or vote to show your gratitude towards a great Human Being: Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Jee
