NY Sports Blog We used to discuss a lot of NY sports back in those days in Sajha. I only remember AX who still is active on Sajha, let’s see if we have few more interested in NY Sports scene (major leagues only): NFL Year 2006 sent 4 NY teams to Baseball and Football playoffs. While the teams at the heart of NYC, who play in the Garden (Rangers, Knicks), had dismal year. While Giants was picked to be a possible Superbowl contender, JETS making the playoff was a pleasant surprise. While Mangini is credited to revive a team that nobody had hopes for this year, Giants is considered an underachieving team..unless they prove their worth winning the Conference championship. Jets Who is going to go through? Sure Jets look promising and I whole heartedly am a Jets fan. They are also a team which 2 years ago almost made it to superbowl, had it not been two missed field goal by a kicker whose name shouldn’t be repeated. But this is also a team that won only 4 games last year, don’t have a legitimate running back (Leon Washington is no Curtis Martin), have mediocre Wide Receivers (Cotchery is playing better, Coles could have done better). Their strength is in their discipline (one of the least penalized), accurate arms of Pennington, small but meaningful playcalls by the offensive coordinator and a balanced mentality of coach Mangini. But they are playing against a formidable opponent in 10-1 (playoff record) Brady+Bellichick duo. Sure New England is not the same team, but they still are a better team than Jets. It is a completely different team in post season and what Jets did in regular season is of less importance now. Prediction? Pats over Jets 23: 17 Giants Okay, they sucked the last two months. Strahan is strained out and Shockey is shocked. Jeff Garcia has revived the Philly team and Brian Westbrook is arguably the second best running back (over LJ) in the league. BUT!! Giants is still a well balanced, slightly undercoached, team. Tiki Barber will bring everything to the field, Eli Manning will be conservative on his passes. Prediction? Giants over Philly: 30:23. Knicks I know, nobody wants to talk about the Knicks. This is the first year, that I have followed Jets and Yankees more than Knicks. I am fed up too, and yet I watch their matches every now and then. They aren’t a bad team on paper. Isiah is not the worst GM ever. He tried to salvage a team that Laden screwed, and made it worse by committing to misery for another few years. His trades were actually good ones. He got Curry for Sweetney and 1st round draft picks that aren’t that good anyways. He got Francis, Rose, Marbury, Crawford etc etc for players that nobody wanted. He drafted Frye and Lee who have great potentials. Even this new guy they drafted looks good. They just don’t have a good mesh, a good chemistry and a winning game strategy. When Curry goes down the paint, Knicks have started to feed him the balls, a smart move..just not enough. When Curry draws double team down the paint, Knicks shooters should be getting the ball back. Knicks just don’t have great shooters. Crawford is probably the best fake dribbler (his cross move can fool you silly) but is an inconsistent shooter. Nobody else is a great shooting guard, Q-Rich’s return should help. I heard Isiah is shopping for a shooting guard. He needs a shooting guard and another defensive player like Kurt Thomas (Jeffery still has to live to his potential). Too much of my blogs, let’s hear yours.
