I am running close to my 20 posts per day and at the risk of starting a lengthy debate that I can't fully take part in, I'd have to disagree. I think discrimination can be looked at from a slightly different moral angle. I think it is okay to positively discriminate under special circumstances - people have special needs - both physical and mental - and it is incumbent upon society, in my opinion, to positively discriminate in the favor of such people. Buses with handicap access, trains with handicap seating, braille buttons - why not? Even the tax code - I understand the concern on robbing Peter to pay Paul. And that not being fair. Sure, but let's face it, neither are prosperity and poverty. Government is here to stay and as long as government stays and there are disparities in income, there will be positive discrimination in favor of the less privileged when it comes to taxes. It ultimately boils down, in my opinion, to relative morality rather than economics, which might prove the case to be otherwise. The moral case for helping the underprivelged is so strong across almost all societies that it is likley to continue to influence economic policy in most societies. Your turn now :) (and apologies in advance if it takes me a while to get back) Have a good one!
