Saddam execution draws widespread commendation in Nepal The execution by the Iraqi government of former dictator Saddam Hussein today has drawn condemnation from the political parties, the Muslim community and human rights groups in Nepal. (Photo source : AP) Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala described the execution of Saddam Hussein as an act against human civilisation. Talking to reporters in Biratnagar this afternoon Koirala said Nepal never supported capital punishment and stressed that the right of all human beings to live must be upheld. Capital punishment should be abolished from the world, he added. The CPN (Maoist) in a statement said the execution of Saddam was not only an inhuman act but also the Bush administration’s “naked violation of democracy and human rights”. Such an act, irrespective of who committed it, is sheer breach of international humanitarian laws and the right of human beings to live, the statement issued by Maoist spokesperson Krishna Bahadur Mahara said. Meanwhile, demonstrations were organised in Biratnagar, Pokhara, Butwal and Kathmandu in protest against the execution of the former Iraqi dictator. CPN (UML) sister organisations - Democratic National Youth Association and All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) - and People Front Nepal (led by Chitra Bahadur KC) organised separate rallies in the capital against the Saddam execution. Various human rights groups and Nepal Muslim Ittihad also condemned the execution describing it as an act against humanity. Saddam was hanged to death at around NST 8:45 am outside Baghdad today as the Iraqi Tribunal recently upheld war crime charges against him. ------------------ Hard to believe that maoist leaders are against execution,,chor girija koirala,,may be his statements would change in a matter of couple of hours..Sounds like we are not nepalese people at all,,and only those f**kin leaders are true nepalese.. Anyway who cares what they think in the global scenario..they are nothing more than a bunch of clowns,.
