. Treatment of Vata Depression Follow Vata-pacifying diet. Eat foods that are strengthening, heavier, and warm. Avoid salads, fruits and caffeine; favor whole grains, vegetables cooked in oil and spiced, dairy products, nuts. Add more warm and "heavier" foods to the diet (such as soups, pasta, rice with well-cooked vegetables). Maintain a regular daily routine with early bedtime. Daily abhyanga (oil massage) either to the whole body, time permitting, or at least to the head and the soles of the feet. Keep warm; take warm baths or showers. Mild exercise such as walking or yoga postures. Daily meditation. This would help to settle the person without threatening the dynamism characteristic of vata dosha. Listen to relaxing music. Use Vata-balancing herbs such as anise, cinnamon, cumin, ginger, gotu kola, licorice, nutmeg, sesame seeds, and valerian (for sleep).
