Unlike the modern western music which has been classified and subclassified into bewildering number of genres and sub-genres, South Asian modern music has not started a tradition of differentiation and classification as yet. Yet ghazal music is distinctly recognizable. What I am trying to say is, in future, when and if we ever started to categorize our modern music, "ghazal" will probably be a name for a distinct genre of music. At that time, it won't be erroneous to call this particular song (just the singing, not the lyrics) a ghazal. Until then, it is.
