Better you keep the computer in "standby" mode. Frequent turning off and on is not good, better stand-by mode takes your computer at lower power consumption state, (thereby reducing heating effect). However, you need to restart sometimes (once in a week or so) .. so that your system gets online-updates from net. Also, this helps resolving some conflicts in systems..
