Maybe GP's plan is to pretend to be the saviour of the Monarchy, but to let it go when the pressure gets too much, so then he can appeal to pro-monarchy voters and say, I tried all I could, and now you don't have much of a choice but to vote for me since I best represent your values. Just my little conspiracy theory :)
