Ignored by US elections

In the frenzy of elections and age old rivalry of the Democrats and Republicans, a very major issue is being ignored. Everyone's talking about the elections and how the Democrats are going to overturn the elections. People are excited, tired of the war on Iraq and ready to cast their votes. Millions are being spent on election campaign everyday. But everyone is forgetting the most important thing and that is how fair is the system that counts the votes. Is it accurate? Even the member of electorial board says that the voting system in the US is light years behind other democratic countries, and that they don't have the resources to update to a better system. Are you kidding me??? In a country like US, which preaches democracy to other countries and even occupies other countries to install their definition of democracy cannot afford to have a system in which their whole democracy is based on? They spend hundreds of billions of dollars fighting wars to intill their form of democracy yet they are not spending few hundred thousand or couple of million dollar to have a robust system for voting? The creator of the program/system for voting can essentially skew the results of the election. All the facade of campaigns and the blitz of the election could be turned into a joke. The voting program should be a open source application so that democrats and republicans can have their programmers check that the application is robust and hackproof without any back doors for manupulation. I would not be surprised if the incumbent political party is knowingly prohibiting any progress in the field of tamper proof elections so that they could manupulate the counting. Long life America and their democratic ways.
