Whether there was a diligent effort for the non-permananent seat in the first place?? Why Nepal lost at the UN voting ? NYNT Correspondent (- www.nynepalitimes.com) New York, October 16, The incapability to reach on any stable political agreement within the political parties in Nepal could be the reason of the failure of Nepal’s bid to get the Non Permanent member seat of the Security Council of the United Nations. This is the view of a Nepali Diplomat here in New York. Talking with the New York Nepali Times after the Monday’s Vote took place at the United Nations headquarters here, Mr. Madhu Raman Acharya, the Nepalese Ambassador to U.N. told that despite the great effort to get the seat, Nepal lost it and this indicates that even friendly countries might had thought that how a country filled with political problem could bear the International position like this. He mentioned that the signs were positive but voter countries did not support our liquid political condition. Mr. Acharya also guessed that watching the former non democratic government in Nepal, international community might had already promised other candidate countries earlier to vote for them. But Nepali intellectuals in New York think that the post could have grabbed if Nepal had worked harder. Mr. Sanjay Parajuli, the president of the Alliance for Democracy and Human Rights in Nepal (ADHRN) says, “ I don’t want to blame Nepali UN Mission here in New York. They worked as much as they could but the things should have done in Kathmandu. A tons of home works and lobbying should have done there. Mere depending on a small Nepali mission does not help alone.” But he is optimistic about the future. He Says, “ This failure has taught us lesson which could be used for future diplomatic examination like this one.”
