do_not_remember_me, I appreciate your observations on sajha. I hope i can try to add my comments to some of your observations 1.Web site Interface. Look at the website design. Do you think this is a good website designing? Even as an individual you are thinking it as good, if we start a poll I am sure more than 51% people will say voter for no. - It's not a good website design. I agree :) It started out as a hobby for me. I'm not even a - computer major. Am an Economics major. Just started learning web programming on my own and put my learning in to create sajha. There is so much to learn it's pretty overwhelming at times but it's nice that people still enjoy sajha inspite of it's mediocrity. The mediocrity of design is forgiven most of the time because of the sheer richness of the USERS who write here and post their ideas and thoughts in here. Sajha is not a great site as far as design is concerned, it's a great site because of all you visitors who visit the site and interact here. Having said that, I do hope to make some changes at some point in time. 2.Login and email system. Great sites like sajha.com had a poor login system. User cannot create password while registering themselves, instead an email is send by the system which contains password. They said that email is send within 24 hours but I got it after 2 days. - The reason users can't create their own password during registration is because many people would use fake email and register many diff usernames. I guess I could let people select their password, and verify using a link in the email. That's a good idea :) Regarding password after 2 days: - It used to be that the server automatically sent the password right after registration. But then sometimes when people were banned for improper behavior they registered right away and got another userid with which they could continue to post and act improperly. Hence the requirement now for approval of registered members and hence the delay. 3.profile maintenance : when I first tried to edit my profile it makes me laugh. Do you think u usually edit your profile like this way. - I am thinking of updating this section. 4.While logging in and out from the account there is one page is display showing “Click here”..OOOPSS. these guys even didn’t redirect it to another page after logging in. It’s not user friendly - The reason for that is because sometimes people want to intentionally flood the server by reloading pages very fast. That is why I had to create a script to detect flooding of the server. That's why once in a while you will see that click here link... 5.We can upload photos but how other user will see. - I am thinking about this as well. It'll be linked on from the profile section. Need to give more visibility to user profiles. 6.We can not view the personal information of the user like firstname, last name etc - This can be covered during the profile update. 7.where is the search facility….we cannot search topics, threads and posts. Even we can not view the post which is posted by a particular user. - You can view posts by a particular user by clicking on the person's name and click on his/her sajha postings link. 8.In the post archive page no paging like (1,2,3,4) is done. Instead one button says previous and next. - Good suggestions. Not sure when I'll be able to get to it. Archives are not accessed too often so I haven't spent too much time on it. 9.They use a dictionary system while we post that is great but instead of that they can use a button or toolbar to sugget new words. Free rich text tools are avilabe on internet. If we want to select the word and double clicked on it another page will open.. this is not user friedly… Is it? How many of you get bored from this. - Yes there are many wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editors available for use but that let's the user change the font size and many different options which could potencially skew postings all over the place because of wrong tags etc. Hence it's just easier to not implement such editors. Below is another reply to a similar posting on 4/8/95 from - http://www.sajha.com/sajha/html/OpenThread.cfm?forum=2&ThreadID=20861#128889 The reason that this forum is different from other forums that you see all over the internet is that this forum has been developed specifically for sajha. Old timers have seen the time when there wasn't even the option to register a username. As the site grew I needed to add more features and the forum as you see it right now is the gradual development according to necessity. Unlike most other sites which use downloaded forums which require least bit of work, I chose to program this forum myself - approx. 97% of this site is my own programming. The programming continues in the backend as new issues arise. As Nepalis when we talk about the food we used to eat back home in those small bhattis with home made specialities, we know how tasty they were. I would like to think of sajha forum as one of those home made dish, instead of a microwaveable food that you can buy off the shelf. Thank God It's Friday!
