It is very sad to read such "Prathas" which are deeply rooted on our country, especially from a leading media as CNN. I understand the situation of "Kamlaris" or whatever it is called (slavery...), but sometimes Media spices the scenario worse. I don't think so this pratha exist only on girls, but boys too. And also, I doubt the authenticity of the research they did it so long as the payments are concerned. $50 a year??? I have seen both boys and girls as house-maids in the city of Kathmandu. Unfortunately, we happend to have few maids while we were growing up. My parents really hate the idea of "Nokar" (which is the common name people used to refer), so we never treat them as a third-class personel, but rather eat together, play together, and most importantly, sending all those kids to school. I like the idea of Mansion and SajhaUser- "The Change." The change is the toughest thing to do in a life. If we just initiate just a little step as treating those Kamlaris similar as ourselves, as least close to what we have, that would be the best solution of this "Pratha." It is upto us how you gonna treat them- treat them as a "Nokar" giving them your torn and worn-out clothes or being a little sympathetic to teach them learn and write. I know our country is not great on economy, but seeing these kinds of article from a notable media makes me sick as they don't have the faintest idea what it is to sleep without having a single grain in the stomach.....
