Umm, I was asking you about the encryption method-- such as WPA, WEP, insecured(non-encrypted); not about the protocol. That's ok though. The reason behind asking you that was to suggest you to let the wireless go unencrypted momentarily, so that you could bypass configuring the passphrase and the '.conf' file of whatever encryption is in use. And if you have luck, turning off the crypt might let your machine receive signals and start working.
