Nepal being an agricultural country, Nepalis get to take a break during the month of Aswin and Kartik when the ropai is done and the fields are covered with golden rice plants. For fifteen days there are gatherings around various temples, celebrations include high swinging swings and animal sacrifices. Dashain actually is not only Hindu festival in Nepal but probably because of its timing it is a national period of celebration and thus is celebrated by Nepalis of all caste and creed throughout the country. We have come so far away from home but still, the golden memories of Dashain bring smiles to us. To honor such a festival and the spirits of being Nepalis, NANC and Annapurna Lion’s Club of Berkeley have collaborated to present to you this year’s Dashain celebration. We invite you all to participate in our TIKA, enjoy the traditional Dashain delicacies brought to you by Taste of the Himalayas, Berkeley, and enjoy the dance competition.
