I guess, it is nepali ways to be more friendly by asking questions that could be considered personal by westerners. Well, people always asked me how much I make or how much my husband makes and how much we pay the rent and how many cars do we have . I tell them I live in rented house and have a car that I make payments on it and stuffs. Well, it is nepali thinking and when they asked questions, I do not think they are trying to get personal with us. It is just the way they showed that they are interested to talk to you and care about you. OF course if a westerner asked me same question I am going to tell them " IT is none of their business." becasue for them it is personal but for nepali people who are still in nepal it is a way to show how friendly they are.
