Mike smith, I know you're pointing at me, so let me address you directly. When i came to usa in 1997, worked only inside the college for 5 years , graduated, now i have work authorization to work anywhere i want to. When i was in Nepal, i didn't know that is was unauthorized to work off-campus. Lots of students comeing from Nepal still do not know that. Also, you do not have to show financial support for 4 years. It is for a year only. My sponsor had enough than that to support for me for a year. And I did not work for a year. Hell i did not engaged myself on off campus work for the whole 4 years because i was in a remote , out of nowhere college, and i didn't know anyone who could help me job wise. There were two gastations , 2 restaurants and 4 bars in that little town of 8000 people. Having to ask money from Nepali parents , you feel like you're getting raped again and again. You feel guilty, irresponsible and whatnot... When every semester would begin to start , i would be in trauma... i couldn't sleep or over sleep.. over eat and gain a lot of weight. or couldn't eat at all... . i couldn't think straight thinking of huge tution that i have to come up with... And i'm sure it's not only me but a lot of Nepali students have to go through that.. The girl at the Estates park is one of the many Nepali students who came to light, what stress can do to you. I am no way bashing on the US foreign policy. They were straight forward and they let everything infront of us when we were coming. However, we did not see the clear figure because we were ignorant. We thought that everyone can work in the usa once they land here, which obvisously is not true. So we should educate Nepali students about the situation. Let them know in Nepal that it is not wise to come here without good financial support of scholorships. No matter what their friends say working in texas and ocean city say about slip and slide, it can catch up on you, they have to know that. Usually Indians are smart and they come here in grad studies, receive financial waiver from thier departments. while Nepali students put double and tripple shift at an Indian gastation, just to pay thier tution, and constantly worry about tution, rent, food, work, ill treatment from Indian owners and what not... It is in a way duty of you Mike smith, and me and everyone who has been through such difficult situations to make aware of the situation to the new comers. I always tell my friends and relatives wanting to come here that it is unauthorized to work here as a student. We should all spread the word and let them know that there is no slip and slide as thier friends might say.You get caught, if not u dump all your hard work on your outofstate tution. So what's the point of working, going through all the mental torture..
