I see Ranking of schools a totally flawed notion in Nepal. By any methodology you rank, you will be creating discriminations and most probably the humuliations among the students who study somewhere in Solukhumbu or Rukum Government school. He knows that his school can not be among those top 10 schools and the advertisements that come in media from those expensive schools may deter him even to study. It's not time to rank the institutions in this stage because in Nepal, almost everything is in wrecked state coz of civil war except few institutions in kathmandu and in some major cities. We have to think at this stage is empowerment of schools. Sending sufficient teachers there, extra academic stuffs in schools to make students at least to encourage him to study and sufficient grants from primary level is the need of the hour. We know that Xt. Xavier is of course better than any shanti or kanti or whatever Madhyamik Vidhyalaya og Myagd or Dhading, then why should we humuiliate others and make ad of such rankings. In some other thread, Ashu Complains about Avi Subedi's understanding of Ignetief or someone similar, I am not so intellectual, but I think Amartya Sen's Capability approach should work here and if we take that line of make everyone capable upto the minimum level or upto minimum standard of education, then, only we can think about rankings---who is best? Otherwise, these all are market driven cheap propaganda and most of the time funded by those institutions who name appear in top 10 list.
