. These are my SuggestionS as of my experience of Revalidation of H1B in July of 2006. Previous visa stamp was F-1 Preparing Form DS-156 and DS-157 (Can be prepared while in US) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Download from: http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/forms/forms_1342.html Use the Non electronic version in pdf Attach photo as necessary. It is ok to mention if you have filed for green card. Remember H1-Bs don’t need to prove ties to home country. DEPARTURE FROM USA ------------------------------- Make sure you have I-94 slip on your passport. Better to take all your previous expired passports. VISA APPLICATION AT NABIL BANK ------------------------------------------------- Location: Maharajgunj near Chakrapath The main documents submitted were: - Completed forms DS-156 and DS-157 - Photocopy of Passport - Photocopy of I797 - Photocopy of Employer’s Letter - Photocopy of Citizenship Card - US$ 100 to be paid in Nepalese currency. The officer will check and ask for missing documents and also remove unnecessary documents. You will receive a ticket with interview date and time. My interview date was 10 days from the application date. ATTENDING THE INTERVIEW ---------------------------------- Location: Yak and Yeti Hotel at Durbar Marg. Better to arrive 1 hour before appointment time to avoid confussions Essential documents are: - Original Current Passport - I797 (H1 Approval Notice) - Employer's letter in company letterhead indicating job responsibilities, salary etc. It is good to take following documents just in case they ask: - Recent Pay stubs (3 Months) - Recent W-2 form - Recent Tax Return documents - Previous H1 Approval Notices - Optional Practical Training Card, I-20s - Degrees, Certificates and Transcripts. - Nepali Citizenship Card - Return Tickets (In my case they did not ask for any of these documents) Following were the interview questions: - You work as a ***** engineer? - Where do you work? - Are you currently working? - Did you goto school in the states? Which one? - Are you paying taxes? - How long have you been working? - What is your salary? -You do quality for visa. Please wait while your visa is being printed. The visa given was valid until the end period in the I797 Notice. All toghether, It took about 2.5 hours to finish interview. GETTING PERMIT FROM SHRAM KARYALAYA IN TEKU --------------------------------------------------------------- Directions: From Dasrath Stadium in Tripuresor go towards National Trading Limited in Teku. Turn Left on the road just before National Trading Limited. Walk about 10 minutes, the Office is on the Right side The List of the requirements are posted on the Wall outside the office. “Helper” is easily available outside the office. - Requires 2 Photos - The Letter from employer should clearly state daily working hours, (no more than 8 hours a day), holidays and salary. - Photocopy of All pages of Passport and original. - Photocopy and original of I797 “Helper” can help to prepare other necessary documents and application forms. Fees: Rs. 500 application fee + approx Rs.3000 Helper Fee After completion, they will put a sticker on the passport. DEPARTURE FROM KATHMANDU AIRPORT --------------------------------------------------- I could not tell whether they checked the Shram Karyalaya sticker or not. but I have heard some were denied to leave country without it. =================================== Hope this saves you guys some headache… Best of Luck..
