The the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal 1990 provides for it in explicit terms in Part 12, Article 97. The fundamental directive prescribed for it is to probe cases related to abuse of authority by way of corruption, and improper activities by public officials. Various actions including prosecuting the concerned public official in the court of law may be taken by the CIAA. The Commission: conducts inquiries and investigation on improper act or corruption alleged to have been committed by a person holding public office. may admonish or recommend, as per its findings, departmental action or any other necessary action against the person who has been found to have abused the authority by committing improper act. may file, if its findings suggest that a person has committed an act of corruption, a case against such person in the court of law. prepare an annual report on activities performed and submit the same to His Majesty the King. (His Majesty the King shall cause such report to be laid before Parliament.) may delegate any of its powers, functions and duties relating to the inquiry, investigation or bringing actions, to the Chief Commissioner, a Commissioner or any employee of His Majesty's Government to be exercised and complied with subject to the specified conditions.
