These awards are billed as "Asia's Nobel Prizes". Two other Nepalis have received these awards in the past. 1. Economic historian Mahesh Chandra Regmi (whose books are must-read for anyone interested to understand aspects of how Nepal has become what it has become today.) 2. Journalist Bharat Dutta Koirala (who, alas, much to my disappointment, kept quiet and was -- in my personal view, unprofessionally and icily aloof -- throughout the times press freedoms were under assault in Nepal.) Dr. Ruit richly deserves this award. Dr. Ruit is NOT exactly an unsung hero; he is well-known throughout the world -- among his professional peer-group of medical doctors as well as with the general public at large -- for his work to bring eyesight to those who need it. He travels all around to collect various international awards from time to time for his work. Congratulations, Dr. Ruit, and very best wishes.
