I am no royalist. The new government has suspended chiefs of police and has called the chief of army for questioning. This sounds promising for democracy as it fosters a culture of accountability; the heads being responsible for the actions of those under him. My question is, why isn't the Maoist leadership brought to justice for their blatant disregard for human rights for the last decade? Politics in Nepal is still dictated by power (arms) and it is evident in the delay to suspend (I am not sure if he ever will be suspended) Pyara Jung Thapa. Well with the Maoist wanting to join the goverment it seems like the rule of the jungle (Maoist are from the jungle and they are virtually running the goverment: Nepali politics is hostage to the arms of the Maoist and the army) is the rule rather than exception in Nepal.
