maoist insurgency was the result of perpetual neglect of poor rural nepal by the kathmandu elites. period. you talk about 14000 deaths. big deal. how about thousands who die each year due to lack of clean water, sanitation, food , shelter and lack of health care. what about the perpetual injustice to these rural folks. I personally do not know who is or what prachanda is. and quite frankly i don't care. i do not support communism because it doesn't work. the only good communist is a dead one. i do not condone the thousands that died because of the uprising of maoist. however i think it has opened eyes of some people that you can only neglect something for sometime not for ever.
