4 year Pharmacy Problem

There are usually two options for a foreign pharmacist with 4 years pharmacy program: 1. Continue pharmacy education in US by enrolling into 2nd or 3rd year of 6 year- Pharma D program and then choose either academia or the retail pharmacy or any other options that are available for the US pharmacists (Expensive and literally very minimal chance of getting financial assistance in the form of scholarships and assistantships- the bottom-line, financing your education is the main issue there). 2. Abandon Professional pharmacy program and get enrolled into Biomedical Sciences related (it encompass broad areas of Research based Biological/Biomedical programs) non-pharmacy MS or PhD programs and then continue perusing either in academia or the Industry or any other options that are available for a Biomedical MS/PhD graduates (In contrast, greater possibility of financial assistance in the form of scholarships and assistantships). But for those of us with 4 years B. Pharmacy program, who graduated prior to 2002, can write Foreign Pharmacist Graduate Equivalency Examination and fulfill subsequent requirements to get Pharmacy license (which may take 1-2 years) to practice in US a Pharmacist (then only you would start earning around 70-90K/year). I had all of 3 options available, but choose option 2 and completed MS in an around 17-18 months and moved on to PhD program immediately after. It was worth full working in Retail pharmacy though because it was then I absolutely realized my interest in academia after my experience working as a retail intern Pharmacist in Rite Aid for a short period- it helped me to figure it out that I personally prefer Academia over Retail pharmacy. I still need to work out on Academia V. Industry! Hope, this will help Sabkobhalohos and lonely 1.
