The success of this government, in my opinion, will be measured in history by a few things : (1) Being able to bring the Maoists into the mainstream (2) Holding elections to CA (3) Implementing a new constitution that creates a stable long-term political framework for Nepal On all three counts, it is to early to tell proclaim victory or failure. However, inspite of the occasional grunts of the Maoists, it looks like things are headed in the right direction so far. Prachanda is talking to the government and wants to join it, not bring it down. That is progress, in my opinion, from two months ago where he and his party had no interest in joining either the government of that day or the mainstream. While it is early to tell which way things will go, I feel we need to give credit where it is due and in this case the current goverment can be credited with starting the process of peace and reconciliation. I hope they complete what they have started.
