Nepal still with chance despite loss to UAE KOL Report KATHMANDU, July 16 - Nepal crashed to a six-wicket defeat to favourites UAE in its latest match in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Trophy 2002 in Singapore Tuesday but still has a chance to qualify for the semi-finals. Nepal’s chances for qualification will now hinge on the match with Kuwait on Wednesday who defeated debutant Oman by eight wickets in another group match today. Both Nepal and Kuwait have two wins and a loss from three games. Nepal’s loss against UAE appears to have been its inability to score. Electing to bat, Nepalese opening order batsmen were dismissed cheaply by the UAE bowlers. Nepalese innings were however steadied by Prakash Luniya who remained unbeaten on 35. Raju Khadka, Arun Thapa and Binod Das also contributed significantly scoring 20, 19 and 14 respectively. Nepal were 159 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. Chasing 160, the United Arab Emirates scored 162 for four with more than 6 overs to spare. None of the Nepalese bowlers were effective today as they were in previous matches. (rk)
