Maoists flood Kathmandu By Bhola B Rana Kathmandu , 1 June: Maoists bussed in hundreds of activists into the capital Thursday after commandeering dozens of vehicles on national highways. The activists were bussed in the capital for Friday's rally at the Open Air Theater on the fifth anniversary of the Naratyanhiti Royal palace carnage. Maoists have forcibly housed activists in government schools and campuses. Two previous attempts to hold public meetings in Kathmandu by Maoists were foiled by successive governments. Maoists said they will flood thee Valley with 500,000 activists for the rally being held as government and insurgents hold peace talks to hold elections for a constituent assembly to draft a constitution to enforce radical changes. Maoists are pushing for a republic and the governing seven parties have also adopted a republican agenda making election for an assembly meaningless. Such an election cannot be free, fair and impartial. Maoist talks coordinator Krishna Bahadur Mahara Thursday told reporters in the capital an interim government with Maoist participation was needed to narrow the rift between rebels and the government.
