Industries re-open in Bara, Parsa Kathmandu, 22 May: Industries resumed production in the districts of Bara and Parsa in south Nepal Monday after a settlement with Maoists. Establishments, including Indian joint venture industries closed down to protest Maoist extortion demands which rebels denied. Industries said Maoists demanded Rs 100 million in extortion money. Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala intervened in a telephone conversation with Prachanda asking him to stop extortions ahead of peace talks and likely participation of insurgents in an interim government for elections to a constituent assembly.
