Windows automatically detects and installs the driver for the CD-Rom. It might also be a bad CD, try different CDs and see if it works. Try the same CDs in a different comuter. If none of the CD work than you have to replace the CD Drive. If you are trying to read a DVD on a CD drive, it will also do what you wrote above, make sure you are not trying to read a DVD on a CD rom drive.
