CIAA report damns 27 big shots, many others RSS KATHMANDU, March 10 - The 13th annual report of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) which was made public on Monday by command of His Majesty the King, in accordance with the Article 127 of the Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal-1990, has pointed out that 27 persons holding public posts had earned illegal property and led an unnatural lifestyle, and therefore cases have been filed against them at the Appellate Court and the Special Court. The report states that cases have been filed against other 64 persons in order to confiscate the property, as the 27 accused had deposited their property in the names of their wives, sons and daughters as well as relatives. According to the report, three former ministers Chiranjivi Wagle, Khum Bahadur Khadka and Jayaprakash Prasad Gupta have been accused of corruption of the largest amount. Former Minister Wagle was accused of illegally earning Rs 32,955,071, Khadka Rs. 23,687, 634, and Gupta Rs 20,808,046 and the CIAA has demanded maximum of punishment for them. The CIAA has also demanded further punishment to them as they were in the ministerial posts. Likewise, the then general manager of the National Construction Company (NCC) Ramagya Chaturbedi and chairman of the company Krishna Kumar Ghimire had earned illegal property of Rs 69,182, 535 and Rs 11,550,000 respectively and have been demanded further punishment against them by the CIAA. Accordingly, it is stated in the report that the then Director General of the Department of Roads Ananda Prasad Khanal amassed Rs 39,740,073; joint-secretary at the Ministry of Finance Shreeram Panta Rs 11,767,326; joint-secretary at the No. 2 Internal Revenue Office Janardan Sharma Rs 16,333,548; under-secretary at the Department of Customs Sarad Kanta Adhikari Rs 9,841,820; under-secretary at the Internal Revenue Office area No. 1 Bharatraj Subedi Rs 4,345,643 and under-secretary at the Ministry of Finance Ishwar Prasad Pokharel Rs 12,303,695. Likewise, the report states that Chief Customs Officer at the Mechi Customs Office Keshar Jung Khadka amassed Rs 14,562,174 through illegal means; director at the Department of Customs Khem Raj Bhattarai Rs 24,563,878; section officer at the Department of Customs Devi Prasad Bhandari Rs 6,778,426; section officer at the Department of Labour and Employment Promotion Ganesh Aryal Rs 4,240,702; section officer at the Ministry of Finance Suresh Kumar Regmi Rs 5,484,255 and the Chief Customs Officer at the Bhairahawa Customs Office Ganesh Prasad Shrestha Rs 18,605,015.
