If they got it from Jagdamba, they have also invested it in keeping up the name of Jagdamba. They have various trust and business organization under her name, keeping her name alive. Also all their wealths are not ancestral they build on it. Ranas giving property to their Brahmins purhet or munims was nothing unusual at that time. Some family kept it, some returned it back it is individual decision.
